More information on your detergent label.

What you should know ?

A new regulation on detergents will come into force in Europe on 8 October 2005. It mainly brings about changes in the labelling of detergent products. These changes are intended to help you use your detergents more efficiently and safely.

More details on the ingredients

Detergent labels and Websites will provide a fuller list of the ingredients employed. This will mainly help to better inform people suffering from allergies when they choose a product. The great majority of consumers are not concerned. In fact, allergic reactions to detergent ingredients are relatively rare.

- In total, 26 ingredients of fragrances were considered by the Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (SCCP*) to be the most frequently linked to allergic reactions. For this reason, these substances will henceforth be mentioned in the labelling if they make up more than a 0.01% concentration in a product in weight. Detergent labels will therefore contain a more detailed list of the ingredients of the perfuming compositions. The full list of these substances is given below.

- All the added preservatives in the products will also be shown on the label. There are in fact very small quantities of preservatives in numerous detergent products. They guarantee the product’s effectiveness over a long period and preserve its initial qualities.

Every ingredient, whether it be an element of a perfuming composition or a preservative, will be mentioned under its international denomination - that is to say its INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) name.

Attributing a single name to each ingredient will make it easier for consumers of all countries, whatever their language, to identify the ingredients present.
